  • A Glimpse of What’s Happening In The City That I Call Home.

The sunrises and then the sun sets. The moon goes down and the day is reset. That’s an indication of a new day. But somehow in this new day and age, everyday seems the same. A young life flowing threw cracks of the streets. Mothers and families singing their melancholy weeps. Gun shots, Bang. They roar in the distance. Gun shots, Bang. Gone in an instant. Bullet shells and wishing wells. Feels like the city is under a witches spell. Then the sun sets and it rises again. And the curse of the city stays on a constant spin.

According to Washington Post, There has been 125 homicides in D.C. as of 2019. 97 of the homicides were due to gun violence. Gun violence has been an issue of the city for a very long time. However, for the past four or five years, I can vividly remember hearing about someone getting shot and killed. This is apart of my memory because every year my timeline is filled with “Rest in Peace” post of the people who have been killed. I’ve had friends that have lost someone due to gun violence. And just last school year, a freshman that attended my school was shot and killed. I can’t help but wonder, why picking up a gun and shooting someone is the solution that people gravitate towards? It’s a shame that the youth of D.C. are forced to normalize gun violence because it’s happening so much and nothing is changing. Will we ever see a day where this trend comes to an end? https://www.washingtonpost.com/graphics/local/homicides/
